Frame Apartments

Belcanto’s early involvement enabled architectural collaboration with detailing and custom-engineered solutions, and timely installation. Our facade features withstand Wellington’s highest winds, while shaping one of the city’s tallest residential buildings.

At 18 storeys tall, Frame Apartments by developers Vicinity presented both visual ambition and technical challenges. Wellington’s wind zone required balustrade and facade elements that could perform under pressure – literally. Our custom-engineered solutions were designed and tested to withstand extreme wind loads while preserving the building’s lightweight, expressive design.

Engaged under an ECI design-build contract, our team was brought in early to coordinate with Archaus and simplify the specification process. That early collaboration enabled full design alignment, efficient procurement and just-in-time delivery for flawless installation on site. ‘Everything needed to be custom-designed and packed for perfect coordination on site,’ says the Belcanto Design Engineer, ‘and our early involvement helped make that possible.’

From precision fabrication to delivery sequencing, everything was built and timed to support a smooth construction programme. With perforated aluminium screens, wind fins and balustrades all contributing to the project’s distinctive exterior, our products not only provided safety, sun and privacy screening, they helped define its visual identity.

What Our Clients say

At Metlifecare Gulf Rise, Belcanto fixed 12 balcony units in a single day. The system allows us to complete the facade sooner, bringing down the scaffolding up to a month earlier, which accelerates work on adjacent civil and landscaping projects. It’s refreshing when something just works as planned, without any issues.

We’ve now used the Grappler system on three buildings for Metlifecare. Our client saw the value in how it reduced risk to the envelope design while delivering significant speed and cost savings. It’s proven to be a real success.
